Regional Medical Research Centre Institute is located at Port Blair in Andaman & Nicobar Islands, a permanent institute of the Indian Council of Medical Research, conducts numerous research subjects revolved on diseases and health related topics relevant to Andaman & Nicobar Islands with special stresses more on the health problems of indigenous primitive tribes.

The special area for research in this institute is ‘Leptospirosis’. For this very research, a Centre has been designated in the name of National Reference Centre for ‘Leptospirosis’ in India. It is also the WHO Colloborative Centre for Diagnosis, Reference, Research and Training in Leptospiosis.
